After Singapore we went to the Fiji Islands, then to Palembang; Oeban; Sing apore; Karachi; Bombay and Abadan,Iran. This is really the first time we hit into the Abadan , Iran area.. We had gotten  in to Bombay a few times  and of course Palembag and Oeban  were old friends.  We played soccer in  Karachi.. Although we did not bend it like  Beckham  I did manage to get my knee corrupted and I still have a scar.

Enroute to Durban, South Africa. We  knew this a  long hall and we  were taking Oil  to Durban.  Ths was exciting to us since we had not been in  Soth Africa before..
As we pulled outside of Durban the lights were flashing getting us ready to come in.
Durban was another port that was memorable to us.. the roofs of the houses were red and green which was reminescent of Sydney, Aust.
We finally got permission to go in.. I was much different than any place else we hd been.. Natives had the rings around their necks like  we had seen in National Geographic magazines.. they provide transportation by  using those two wheel carts and taking people around .  We had seen them before in Singapore.  Maybe rickshaws???
and the year rolls over  1949 is gone and we had not been in the States during that year.

Southbound between Madagascar and the east coast of Africa. I wish I  had put a map in so you could see where we were  and maybe I could †oo.

After Durban we went north to the Persian Gulf and stopped at Ras-at-Tanura, Saudi Arabia. Ras -at Tanura was  another  oil  port.. I t was wealthy and had many modern things.  If I remember right Dave got to go ashore and had a  tooth worked on.  and the facilities were spotless the the treatment was good.  We got olur oil fillup; and  next stop was another continent.

Feb 15, 1950

After leaving Ras-at-Tanura, we plied the Indian Ocean sailing southeast to the southern coast of Australia on our way to Melbourne.  We weren't staying in Melbourne  for very long .   It wasn't a good time to be there

In Melbourne. Leave shortly for Singapore.  We shoot up to Singapore via Oebån.. If you will notice on the map they are not  very far apart.

After Oeban we sailed west into the Indian Ocean on our way to Bombay.   We could only dream  we might be going on around the world.. Maybe we were  going to  Norway.. ha ha

In Bombay. Signed off the Mosbay and signed on the SS Exchange, an American freighter (American Export Line).  We were in Bombay for a few days and were ready to head out ot sea again . I was on the wheel when it sounded like all hell broke loose.  there waa a fire in the hold.   Our captain was a calm and a strong leader.
Finally tug boats and shore people helped get us under control.
the damage was such that we were going to be in Bombay for awhile..

Near  us in the docks was an American Ship  the SS.Exchange.  Our Captain was always trying to help us and he went over and asked if they needed to good sailor who were trying to get back to the US.   Fortunately for us ( two of their crew were incompacitated.. One had jumped ship and another came down with a Sexually Transmitted Disease.. We got the jobs.  and we were on our way home..
