JACOB LOUGHMILLER
Great Grandfather Loughmiller, father of Jacob, Jim, Will, and others, with his family, lived in Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was a plantation owner and was said to have owned slaves. The opposition to slave trade was beginning to claim much atten- tion and was fast reaching fever heat from pulpit and press. People began to feel convictions of their hearts and minds in regard to the traffic in slaves. Families felt the pressure of the critical times and frequently disagreed. Great Grandfather and Jacob, his son, differed widely. They discussed, they argued, they pleaded, but could not come to an agreement. Each was so sure he was right.
