BE OF CHEER
All sunny skies would be too bright
All morning hours mean too much light
All laughing days too gay a strain.
There must be clouds, and night and rain
And shut-in days to make us see
The beauty of life's tapestry.

"A century ago our forefathers moved westward in covered wagons. There were only a couple things in those wagons which differed markedly from what the Old Testament patriarchs possessed - the printed word and gunpowder."
THEY SAID THESE
Quick as a wink Sour as a lemon
Tight as a drum Wrinkled as a prune
Blind as a bat Hard as a rock
Sore as a boil Soft as a marshmallow
Wise as a owl Slow as molasses in January
Limp as a rag Clear as a bell
Thin as a rail Bald as an eagle
Higher than a kite Sharp as a tack
Slippery as an eel Round as a butterball
Busy as a bee Crooked as a dog's hind leg
Fresh as a daisy Straight as a string
Slick as a whistle Sober as a judge
Mad as a hornet Cute as a kitten
Brave as a lion Crazy as a bedbug
Plump as a partridge Thick as fleas on a dog
Straight as an arrow Sound as a dollar
Quiet as a mouse Straight as a die
Light as a feather Black as a crow
Dry as a bone Brown as a berry
Drunk as a lord Sweet as sugar
Proud as a peacock Nimble as a cat
Strong as an ox Knee high to a grasshopper
Cross as a bear Fit to be tied
Neat as a pin Dead as a doornail
Dirty as a pig One foot in the grave
Pretty as a picture Sweating like a nigger at election
Sick as a horse Don't look a gift horse in the mouth
Spry as a cricket Came in like a whirlwind in a cloud of dust
Flat as a pancake For the love of Mike (Pete)
Bright as a dollar Busy as a one-armed man with the itch
Dead as a gnat Are you sitting pretty
Sly as a fox Truth is stranger than fiction
Fit as a fiddle Flying around like a chicken with its head out off
Pale as a ghost Green as a gourd
Tired as a dog Hopping around like a flea on a hot griddle
Smart as a whip Crazy as a loon
Black as the ace of spades Go to bed with the chickens
Poor as a church mouse Old as the hills
Busy as a screen door Jumping around like a cat on a tin roof
Nervous as a cat Crazy as a loon
Nutty as a fruit cake Ah, shucks, that ain't so
Heavenly days For the sake of everything that's good
Go jump in the lake Spring your stuff
Be there in a whip stitch Don't know as much as Thompson's colt (D. Osborn)
Got there in the stitch of timeBy the skin of your teeth
The spittin image of his Pa Can do that at the drop of a hat
Sold it for a song Eat us out of house and home
Poorer that Job's turkey Sat spinning yarns (tall tales)
Better late than never Things are in a hub-bub
In this neck of the woods Don't get your tail over the dash board
Barking up the wrong tree Never turned a tap
A start is over half the way He always stayed until the last dog was hung
Jack of all trades and master of none Out of kelter
Throw a whing ding Like a bat out of birmingham
Don't spare the horses At a snail's pace
Mad as a wet hen More than you can shake your fist at
Let sleeping dogs lie Quicker than you can say Jack Robison (scat)
Stop beating around the bush "Twill never be noticed on a galloping horse
There are more ways to kill a cat than to choke it on butter Went to see a man about a horse

THEN AND NOW

Use this reeceet for washin cloes:
Bild fire in back yard to het kettle of rain water

Stur flour in cold water to smooth then thin with bilin water
Rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard then bile; rub cullord but don't bile, just rench and starch.
Take white things out of kettle with broom stick handle then blew and starch
Spred tee towels on grass, hang rags on fense, poor rench water on flower
