Ms. Vetrinskaya was born in Latvia and began playing the piano at age seven. After receiving degrees from the State Musical College and the National Conservatory in Turkmenistan, she continued musical studies at the Moscow Gnesin Academy of Music, where she completed the doctoral program in ensemble performance. In 1986, Ms. Vetrinskaya was awarded first prize for accompaniment in the Gajibekov International Competition. She has performed in major concert hall recitals in Russia, Azerbajan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belorussia, and Turkmenistan. Her broad repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music, and she was regularly heard on national radio and TV programs in Turkmenistan. Ms. Vetrinskaya was the first recipient of a fellowship from the John Donald Robb Musical Trust. This enabled her to study the piano manuscripts of Robb in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has been a frequent performer in the John Donald Robb's Composer's Symposium held at the University of New Mexico, and has also performed with the Albuquerque Chamber Soloists. Presently she is a part time faculty member at the University of New Mexico. |
