2005 UNM John Donald Robb Composer's Symposium

When: April 2 – April 6, 2005

Where: University of New Mexico Fine Arts Complex

How: All events are free and open to the public except where otherwise noted.

Who: Featured Composers for the symposium are Cecil Taylor & Ellen Band

The 34th annual internationally renowned John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium at the University of New Mexico kicks off on Saturday, April 2nd. This year the Symposium ventures into new territories by including film and poetry reading among the scheduled performances.

The John Donald Robb Concert on Monday evening will feature excerpts from Robb's folk opera, Little Jo as well as music by visiting composers.

The events run a bit longer, with the first event scheduled at the new National Hispanic Cultural Center on Bridge and 4th streets. The symposium begins Saturday, April 2nd and ends Wednesday, April 6th, and includes three days of composition seminars, demonstrations and panel discussions with visiting composers and faculty members from UNM's Department of Music, as well as well evening concerts, student composition awards and special events.

Tatiana Vetrinskaya & Soprano Leslie Umphrey Performed at the Awakening Museum in Santa Fe

Tatiana Vetrinskaya, the world's most renowned pianist for interpreting and performing piano works by John Donald Robb, and soprano Leslie Umphrey performed in concert at the Awakening Museum in Santa Fe this past May.

The Museum is located at 125 N. Guadalupe St. (corner of Johnson; 1 block west of The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum).

The concert included solo piano work of John Donald Robb, 12 Danzas Espanolas Opus 5 by Enrique Granados as well as John Robb's Hispanic Folk Songs of New Mexico and original art songs.


New Recordings of John D. Robb's Music Now Available from Opus One

We are very pleased to announce that Opus One Recordings, Inc. has released two new recordings featuring the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra performing music of John Donald Robb.

The first release, CD 183, includes Robb's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra featuring violist, Dariusz Korcz, and Robb's Symphony for Strings (Symphony No. 1) recorded in April of 2000. Click here for more information on CD 183 and to hear selections from the recording.

More Releases Coming Soon

Opus One Recordings, Inc. is preparing to release a new recording of Robb's Hispanic Folk Songs of New Mexico (arranged for chamber orchestra and solo voice by Roger Jannotta) and Robb's original art songs being performed by the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra; soprano, Leslie Umphrey; David Oberg, conducting.

Piano Album Featuring Music Scores from John D. Robb's Pictures of New Mexico CD Completed and Available for Students and Teachers:

Pianist, Tatiana Vetrinskaya, who is the featured performer on the Robb Trust's inaugural CD, Pictures of New Mexico, has edited and created a published album that includes all of the piano music scores from the CD.

Ms. Vetrinskaya has been performing and studying the piano music of John Donald Robb since 1995 when she received the first John D. Robb Trust Fellowship to study, perform and disseminate Robb's music.

The result of her work is this wonderful new and accessible collection of Robb's piano pieces that reflect her personal interpretation of the music.
