Composers Symposium 2008

Gordon Mumma The 2008 John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium (March 30-April 2) will feature the music of Gordon Mumma, the final composer in a three year series featuring prominent members of the famous ONCE festivals in Ann Arbor Michigan. Mumma, an early innovator in the field of live electronics, composed and performed for many years with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Other composers participating include Daniel Lentz, Carlo Alessandro Landini and Riccardo Piancentini from Italy, DJ Wolf from Frankfurt Germany, Yvonne Lee from Massachusetts and Anne Guzzo from Wyoming. Steve Peters will present this year's sound installation at the UNM Art Museum. Dawn Chambers, Richard Cameron-Wolfe and John Kennedy will also have works performed and UNM composers Richard Hermann, Patricia Repar, Panaiotis, Paul Lombardi, Christopher Shultis and William Wood will have new works premiered as part of the festival. The opening concert will feature this year's Artists-in Residence, Duo Alterno in a concert of contemporary Italian and American composers. The Monday evening concert will feature John Donald Robb's Triangulum for Piano and Clarinet performed by UNM Professor of Music Keith Lemmons and pianist Mary Beth Gunning. Also, Dean Robb's String Quartet Number 2 will be performed by the UNM Faculty String Quartet. Concerts are Sunday through Wednesday evenings as well as Tuesday afternoon and daytime events will occur Monday through Wednesday. Concerts and Daytime events are all free and open to the public.

New Recordings of John D. Robb's Music Now Available from Opus One

We are very pleased to announce that Opus One Recordings, Inc. has released two new recordings featuring the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra performing music of John Donald Robb.

The first release, CD 183, includes Robb's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra featuring violist, Dariusz Korcz, and Robb's Symphony for Strings (Symphony No. 1) recorded in April of 2000. Click here for more information on CD 183 and to hear selections from the recording.

The second release, CD 187, includes Robb's Piano Concerto, featuring pianist Tatiana Vetrinskaya, (as well as the Second Symphony of Hayg Boyadjian) recorded in April 2001. Click here for more information on CD 187 and to hear selections from the recording.

More Releases Coming Soon

Opus One Recordings, Inc. is preparing to release a new recording of Robb's Hispanic Folk Songs of New Mexico (arranged for chamber orchestra and solo voice by Roger Jannotta) and Robb's original art songs being performed by the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra; soprano, Leslie Umphrey; David Oberg, conducting.

Piano Album Featuring Music Scores from John D. Robb's Pictures of New Mexico CD Completed and Available for Students and Teachers:

Pianist, Tatiana Vetrinskaya, who is the featured performer on the Robb Trust's inaugural CD, Pictures of New Mexico, has edited and created a published album that includes all of the piano music scores from the CD.

Ms. Vetrinskaya has been performing and studying the piano music of John Donald Robb since 1995 when she received the first John D. Robb Trust Fellowship to study, perform and disseminate Robb's music.

The result of her work is this wonderful new and accessible collection of Robb's piano pieces that reflect her personal interpretation of the music.
