I have co-authored or co-edited three books.  I briefly describe these books below, and explain the rationale for writing them.  Where appropriate, links are provided for the books that have pages located within their publisher's website.

Co-Authored Books

Advanced Exercise Physiology

Robergs RA and Roberts SO. Exercise Physiology: Exercise, Performance and Clinical Applications. Mosby, St. Louis, 1997              (now published by McGraw-Hill, Dubuque, Iowa)

This text was the first that I wrote with Scott.  The book orginated as an idea of Scott's that immediately stimulated my need to be able to alter the traditional approach that had been used in formulating the content of a textbook in exercise physiology.

I am planning on developing the 2nd edition for this text during the Fall 2002.  It will be a very different 2nd edition, now that we have the undergraduate version published.  However, I will maintain an advanced approach to content, with even a greater emphasis on biochemistry.

Originally Scott and I were to write an undergraduate text.  However, my desire to raise the standards of the content in exercise physiology books argued for the completion of an upper level text.  In addition, both Scott and I felt there was less competition for an upper level book, even though the market size for such a text was limited.  Hence, the upper level book above was the first that we completed.

Introductory Exercise Physiology

Robergs RA and Roberts SO. Fundamental Principles of Exercise Physiology: For Fitness, Performance and Health. McGraw-Hill, Dubuque, 2000

This text is a simplified, yet thorough version of the upper level text.  The text is completely re-written to present material at a lower level yet maintain a complete coverage of the physiology.  This latter fact was important, as prior use of other books at this level resulted in students complaining about the over-simplistic coverage/explanation of many topics.

The 2nd edition for this book is scheduled for printing, summer 2002.

The completed upper level text provided a template to work on this lower level text.  We tried to keep the format as similar as possible, and used figures from the upper level book whenever possible.  Nevertheless, additional figures are included, and as indicated above, although the structure of the material is similar between books, the the text content is very different.

Co-Edited Books

Clinical Exercise Physiology

In 1994 Scott wanted to edit a text on clinical exercise physiology.  I indicated that I would write some chapters, and help with the editing.  This text is the culmination of these efforts.
