Books, movies, plays, they are all found here in L.A. More than this, L.A. is filled with stories.

Will Rogers, famed comedic writer, is still with us. Traveling Santa Monica to the Pacific Ocean, the careful traveler may notice Will Rogers Beach and Will Rogers State Park, where his house and stables stood.

Being the clear choice for entertainment capital of the West, L.A. has also produced many movies that bring audiences onto the road without having to leave the theaters.

Bob Moore, editor of Route 66 Magazine, lists twenty films taking place on Route 66--mostly recent ones, filmed since l970. There are road films, such as "Vanishing Point," "Two-Lane Blacktop," "Bound for Glory," "Thelma and Louise," "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," and "Easy Rider." I raise my head from the filmography. What an extraordinary listing: and that’s not counting the classics, such as Grapes of Wrath or, as the next exit points out, "Sunset Boulevard."
