"Yeah, I've heard of it, but tell me what you think happened anyway," said the listener.

Many scientists believe that all the stuff in the universe, all of its energy, was concentrated in one small place in space and time. Then, suddenly, in one big, creative event, pure energy exploded and turned into matter; turned into atoms, and galaxies, and stars, and eveything we now see.

"If you insist on being a fanatic," said the storyteller, "you could say that there is a Blue Whale because there was a Big Bang."


"And I know what is coming next," sneered the storyteller, "another Why? But it won't do you any good. There is a good reason for the Big Bang, and it is easy to explain.

There was, or is, a Big Bang because wise kids like you always have to ask another Why?"
