Transportation Planner I
The Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization
is a transportation planning agency with membership from
Brazos County, the City of Bryan, the City of College
Station, Texas A & M University, and the Texas Department of
Transportation. The BCSMPO is currently recruiting for the
position of Transportation Planner I. The primary duties
include a variety of professional planning, technical and
program management under the supervision of the MPO
director. May work independently or with other planners
and/or outside groups in an office environment although
outdoor activity may be required. Attendance at some night
meetings may be required.
EDUCATION - Must have a Bachelor Degree in Geography, Planning,
Computer Science, Civil Engineering or related field. A Master Degree
is preferred and may be substituted for one year of experience.
EXPERIENCE - One (1) year experience in planning performing
professional/technical work preferably with or related to local
government.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS - Knowledge/familiarity with general theories
of planning. Good written, oral and presentation skills. Knowledge of
computers and computer databases including Arc/Info & ArcView. 3.x,
Win95, Windows NT, Unix operating systems and the planning process.
JOB DESCRIPTION - Hired and supervised by the MPO Director. Assists
the Director carrying out the daily activities of the MPO, as well as
short and long-term planning projects. Involves problem definition,
development of goals and objectives, evaluation of alternatives and
development of detailed transportation and land use program
recommendations. Exercises a degree of independent thinking, creativity
and initiative in the performance of his/her duties. Conducts public
meetings and gathers public input on a variety of topics. Performs other
duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the theories and practice of transportation planning;
working knowledge of data collection, capacity analysis and forecasting
techniques; familiar with the relationship among, social, economic and
environmental determinants and effects; understand computer applications
for transportation planning activities; able to develop clear and
concise oral/written reports; strong ability to communicate effectively;
be dependable, innovative, and have professional judgement.
Must be able to do light to moderate activity normally associated with
an office environment and occasional outdoor activity. Requires
occasional lifting and moving of office furniture and computer hardware.
SALARY - $2194.92/mo Plus benefits, D.O.Q
