Selection Procedure
The Admissions Committee is composed of CRP faculty members
and representatives of student organizations. Applicants are
given the following determinations:
Admit-the applicant is awarded unconditional admission to
the program. Students are required to confirm their
acceptance within three weeks. Students who fail to do so
automatically forego their slot. On acceptance, students are
assigned a Faculty Advisor to assist them in designing their
course of study.
Conditional Admit-the applicant is awarded admission on a
conditional basis. Students who do not have basic foundation
coursework in either statistics or economics or both of
these areas will be required to take the equivalent
coursework before they can advance in the core sequence.
These make-up courses do not count towards degree
requirements.
Waiting List-the applicant is assigned a ranked order,
awaiting possible admission should a space open up. A
determination is made one month after the original
prospective admissions have been announced. All applicants
on the waiting list will be notified of the final outcome.
Admission Denied-the applicant's admission is declined.
Those who fail to gain admission are encouraged to contact
the CRP Director for an explanation and to assess the
feasibility of a successful reapplication.
Selection Criteria
All files are reviewed according to the following
components
Letter of Intent-this is one of the most important
elements in the application. It is the applicant's
opportunity to communicate his or her individual
professional goals, personal accomplishments, and academic
motivation. The Admissions Committee looks for a commitment
to planning practice and assesses your goals and philosophy
against those of the MCRP program. The applicant should
strive to identify any special attributes that may add to
the multi-cultural and affirmative action goals of the
program. The Letter of Intent should be concise and well
argued; 2 or 3-typed, double-spaced pages are adequate.
Letters of Recommendation-three letters from individuals
who are knowledgeable of the applicant's academic and/or
professional accomplishments. The Admissions Committee
carefully considers these letters in assessing the
applicant's academic potential and demonstrated background.
Standard forms are made available through the OGS admissions
packet and are required to be mailed directly to OGS by the
reviewer. Absence of a recommendation will affect your
chance of admission.
Academic Transcripts-A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for
the last two years of an applicant's undergraduate study.
The transcript is reviewed for related coursework in
planning, statistics, and economics. Unofficial transcripts
will not be considered. GRE scores are not required.
Curriculum Vitaa personal vita is an additional
requirement of the CRP program and should be submitted along
with the application. The vita helps the Admissions
Committee understand the applicant's academic and
professional career path, especially any related job
experience, publications, community service, and outstanding
accomplishments.
