Homecoming Week!


Main Campus

Homecoming Week will run September 26th through October 1st.  The week starts off with Karaoke on Tuesday from 11am to 2pm in the SUB Atrium.  Wednesday is the Homecoming King and Queen election from 9am - 5pm in the SUB or online.  Thursday is the new event Silent Lights in Zimmerman Plaza from 8:30pm to 11pm (Click Here for more information).  Friday is the All-Sports Pep Rally in the SUB Atrium from Noon - 1pm where the Homecoming Court is announced.  Saturday is the Football game against San Jose State at 2pm with the Homecoming Coronation happening at Halftime.

Banner Competition for Student Organizations - Homecoming Howlabaloo



SUB Room 1016

Chartered Student Organizations at UNM can compete in the Banner Contest for cash prizes from the UNM Alumni Association/Alumni Relations Office.  The deadline for competing is Monday, September 26th at 5:00 pm to the ASUNM Office, SUB Room 1016.

The following rules apply to the contest:
- Please use a standard sized twin bed sheet of any color
- Use paint, markers, fabric and other lightweight material.  DO NOT USE GLITTER or any item that may fall off your banner and injure someone.
- Do not use the San Jose Spartans in any way that may be deemed offensive.
- The judges point system is as follows:
-- 20 points for including the words "Homecoming 2016" and "Howlabaloo"
-- 15 points for Lobo Theme
-- 5 points for including your student organization's name
-- 30 points for creativity
-- 30 points for Design/Skill/Look of the banner

1st Place - $300, 2nd Place - $200, 3rd Place - $100 provided by UNM Alumni Association/Alumni Relations Office.  The banners will be hung in the SUB Atrium during Homecoming Week and judged on Wednesday, September 28th.  For entry sheet and further information download the form attached to this calendar listing or contact ASUNM Lobo Spirit.

Homecoming King and Queen Election



SUB by the Welcome Desk or Online at my.unm.edu

Undergraduate students at the main campus of UNM may vote for one King and one Queen candidate in the Homecoming Election. Students may vote in-person by the SUB Welcome Desk or online at my.unm.edu. The Homecoming Court will be revealed at the All-Sports Pep Rally on Friday, September 30th at Noon in the SUB Atrium.  The King and Queen will be announced on the field at Halftime of the football game on Saturday, October 1st.

Hispanic Heritage Month - Mariachi Nuevo Sonido

Join us on the SUB Mall for great live music from Mariachi Nuevo Sonido as a part of UNM's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.  Mariachi Nuevo Sonido is committed to the perpetuation of the vast range of Mexican traditional music and New Mexican music of the past and present. Nuevo Sonido emphasizes the authenticity and tradition of Mexican and New Mexican culture and reflects the international resurgence of mariachi music. 

All members of Nuevo Sonido originate from Mexico and are all third generation Mariachis. All members have extensive performance and educational experience including the founder, Marvin Teitelbaum.

Stop by the SUB Mall to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by watching Albuquerque's own Baila! Baila! dance company entertain with traditional Folklorico and other dance styles. Baila! Baila! has entertained countless guests at various events ranging from Church Fiestas (one of our personal favorites) to events as prestigious as the “Autumn Dance Festival” at Carnegie Hall in New York City and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Lobo's Got Talent - Talent Show!

The 8th Annual Lobo's Got Talent Show showcases the best UNM has to offer from our talented students!  Applications for the show will be out in late September / early October.  Audition nights will take place on November 7th and 8th.  Approximately 10-15 acts will make the final show.  The final show takes place in the SUB Ballroom at 7pm on November 11th. 
Prizes are given for 1st ($500), 2nd ($350), 3rd ($150) and Audience Choice ($100) - Sponsored by Lobo Village and Casas del Rio.  Stop by to support our talented UNM students!  For more information, contact the Student Activities Center.
