Lobo Athletics and Academic Advisement Tutor and Mentor Program
Facilities
Athletic Computer Lab
Student-athletes have their own computer
lab which contains contains 12 Gateway computers loaded with all the
essential software needed to complete any academic assignment. The
computers are connected to two laser printers via a local area network.
The computer lab is open to all student-athletes and a monitor is
available Monday through Friday to assist and tutor athletes in
understanding specific subject material. There are also tables where small
groups of students or individuals can study and do their homework. The
computer lab is located inside the Athletic and Academic Advisement
offices in Johnson Center on the main UNM campus.

Day and Night Tutor Rooms
The day and night tutor rooms are staffed
with tutors in virtually every academic subject. Athletes may seek
one-on-one help from tutors on a walk-in basis or make an appointment with
a particular tutor during open tutor hours. Student-athletes can seek
assistance and guidance from the tutors through one time or continual
meetings with tutors. Our tutors assist the student-athlete by engaging
the students in a discussion of the course content, answering questions,
explaining and synthesizing general concepts. The main goals of the tutor
rooms are to help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and
studying as well as develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and
reduce the anxiety or fear of failure in thier academic work. Both the day
and night tutor rooms are located in Johnson Center on the main UNM campus
in room 124.

Study Halls
The study halls are sport specific and
designed to accommodate an entire varsity athletic team in a structured and
professional academic setting. The atmosphere of team study halls are
meant to foster an environment that is conducive to learning and group
facilitation. Each team study hall is staffed and monitored by at least
one study hall monitor who also acts as a tutor and, in many cases, a
mentor to the athletes. The study hall monitors are proficient in a myriad
of subjects and provide assistance to the student-athletes when needed.
The study halls are located in various locations, depending on the sport,
spread throughout the main campus and south campus.
