The New Mexico Scholars Program

Program Description:
The scholarship was created by the 1989 New Mexico Legislature to assist outstanding New Mexico high school graduates. The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books, and is awarded for four consecutive years, provided you maintain a 3.0 grade point average on at least 24 credit hours per year.

Tuition, fees and books per year for the 08-09 academic year
(Recipients of a New Mexico Scholars scholarship are not eligible for the UNM Bridge to Success or New Mexico Legislative Lottery Success Scholarship programs.)
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have maintained a level of performance in high school reflected by a junior, senior, or placement level of 25 ACT composite score (or SAT of 1140) or top five percent (5%) in graduating class
  • Total combined family income of no more than $30,000 per year if one family member is in college or $40,000 per year if two family members are in college
  • New Mexico high school graduate
  • New Mexico residents only
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
