Program Description:
In 1989 the Board of Regents established the University of New Mexico
Regents’ Scholars Scholarship Program.
The
Regents’ Scholars Scholarship Program provides tuition and fees, room
and board, and books to fifteen to twenty freshman students who meet
specific criteria outlined below. The award is renewable for four
years if the student meets specific renewal criteria each year.
Regents’ Scholars will be involved in innovative and exciting programs
and opportunities. To enhance the students’ academic experiences, each
Scholar will be assigned one of UNM’s outstanding faculty, who will
serve as a mentor.
Regents’ Scholars will be admitted to the University of New Mexico
General Honors Program and will receive specialized advisement and
course registration privileges.
Regents’ Scholars will represent the University at various community
and University functions.
Application Deadline: December 3
Approximately $12,915 per year
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident,
and meet the following requirements:
- Valedictorian
or;
- ACT composite
score of 31 or higher (or SAT equivalent 1360) or;
- A cumulative
sixth (6th) semester grade point average of 3.9 or higher and;
- A statement of
goals and philosophy
- Two letters of
recommendation
(Even though students may meet one of the
minimum requirements listed, at the second level of review at least
two of the items mentioned, as minimums will advance a candidate to
the next level. Semi-finalists are required to attend scholarship
interviews during the first week in February.)
The
following will also be taken into consideration:
- National
Scholarship Recognition, i.e.: National Merit Finalist, National
Hispanic Scholar, National Achievement Scholar
- Enriched
college preparatory course work and advanced placement courses
Extracurricular and leadership activities
Four (4) year renewable award
