Contributors celebrated the debut of the 2009 edition of Scribendi with staff members at our local Opening Reception on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the University Honors Program Forum (Ground floor of the Student Health Center Building) on the UNM campus. Earlier the staff had previewed this year's editions at the Western Regional Honors Council Conference in Spokane, Washington, on March 5-7, 2009. While the conference was too early this year for copies of the magazine to be available, the staff hosted a reception that featured works by contributors published in the 23rd edition. Copies of the magazine are available in the Scribendi office (UNM Campus, Student Health Center, Room 11C) for a suggested donation of $10-$15. You may also order them through Paypal by following this link. What is Scribendi? Scribendi is a high quality publication of art and literature, sponsored by the Western Regional Honors Council and UHP. Produced completely by UHP students, Scribendi publishes creative works by undergraduate honors students in more than 220 western colleges and universities in 13 states in the western U.S. For more about Scribendi, click here. Now accepting 2009-2010 Staff Applications Scribendi is currently accepting applications for the 2009-2010 staff. We are looking for wonderful, motivated, hard-working students to apply for for next year's Scribendi staff. All staff members must be very strong at working collaboratively in groups. Students with background in writing, art, business, marketing, and graphic design are particularly welcome to apply. Functioning largely as an educational internship in small publication production, the two UHP courses required of Scribendi staff members (one in the fall and one in the spring semesters) provide students with practical, hands-on experience in proofreading, copyediting, typography, magazine design and layout (using desktop publishing software), fund-raising, marketing and distribution, as well as small press management. Staff members are selected through an application and interview process. For applications, follow this link or pick one up at the Main UHP office or the Scribendi office. We also have a Vistiting Staff Exchange Program for students from other schools in the western region who would like to come to UNM for a year to serve on the Scribendi staff. For more information on the Visiting Staff Program, follow this link. For additional information, contact Faculty Advisor Leslie Donovan at ldonovan@unm.edu or (505) 277-4313, or check out the course description here.
