Scribendi 2009 is here!

The 2009 edition of Scribendi has been published and is now available. Featuring 36 works by 29 undergraduate writers and artists representing 14 honors programs and colleges in the western U.S., this is the 23rd edition of our publication.

This year, Scribendi received 350 total submissions from 134 students in 32 universities or colleges in the 13-state western region of the U.S. While space and budget limitations made it impossible for the staff to publish all the fine works we received, we worked hard to make our final selections representative of the diversity and high quality of works produced by Honors students in the western region.

Contributors celebrated the debut of the 2009 edition of Scribendi with staff members at our local Opening Reception on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., in the University Honors Program Forum (Ground floor of the Student Health Center Building) on the UNM campus. Earlier the staff had previewed this year's editions at the Western Regional Honors Council Conference in Spokane, Washington, on March 5-7, 2009. While the conference was too early this year for copies of the magazine to be available, the staff hosted a reception that featured works by contributors published in the 23rd edition.

Copies of the magazine are available in the Scribendi office (UNM Campus, Student Health Center, Room 11C) for a suggested donation of $10-$15. You may also order them through Paypal by following this link.

Now accepting 2009-2010 Staff Applications
Scribendi is currently accepting applications for the 2009-2010 staff. We are looking for wonderful, motivated, hard-working students to apply for for next year's Scribendi staff. All staff members must be very strong at working collaboratively in groups. Students with background in writing, art, business, marketing, and graphic design are particularly welcome to apply.

Functioning largely as an educational internship in small publication production, the two UHP courses required of Scribendi staff members (one in the fall and one in the spring semesters) provide students with practical, hands-on experience in proofreading, copyediting, typography, magazine design and layout (using desktop publishing software), fund-raising, marketing and distribution, as well as small press management.

Staff members are selected through an application and interview process. For applications, follow this link or pick one up at the Main UHP office or the Scribendi office. We also have a Vistiting Staff Exchange Program for students from other schools in the western region who would like to come to UNM for a year to serve on the Scribendi staff. For more information on the Visiting Staff Program, follow this link.
