Submission Requirements and
Categories
Requirements
Scribendi accepts work conforming to the
following requirements:
• To be considered for publication in Scribendi, submittors must
be undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited Honors program
or college in the Western Regional Honors Council area.
Further information on eligibility requirements may be found on our Eligibility
page.
• All submissions must be accompanied by a completed Scribendi Contributor Information Form and the Submission Form appropriate for its category. Failure to comply with the specifications
given on the Contributor Information Form will result in disqualification. Follow
the procedures on our Instructions
page closely for details about preparing these forms.
• You may submit up to 3 works total. Regardless of whether you are submitting works in a single category or works in multiple categories, you may only submit a maximum of 3 works in our Literature and Fine Arts categories. However, the maximum total of 3 works does not apply to the categories of Music or Film. You may submit up to 3 additional works in Music or Film, but no contributor may submit more than 3 works in Literature and Fine Arts categories plus 3 additional works in Music or Film.
• Works submitted to Scribendi may not have been published
elsewhere or and may not be currently submitted to another publication.
Categories
The categories in which Scribendi accepts submissions and the requirements
for each category are described below.
Essays/Creative Non-Fiction
Any type of non-fiction, fact-based prose including,
but not limited to, memoirs, short stories, personal essays, lyrical
essays, literary journalism, travel writing, etc. Creative Non-fiction
is usually a combination of scene, reflection, and exposition generally
based on a person’s life or personal experience. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three essays, no longer than 5,000 words each, titled. Untitled works will not be accepted.

Poetry
Any style of poetry including, but not limited to, sonnet, limerick, haiku, acrostic, pantoum, villanelle, free verse, etc. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three poems, no longer than five pages each, titled. Untitled works will not be accepted.
Short Fiction
Any type of short fiction including, but not limited to, short story, micro-fiction, flash fiction, tall tales, etc. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three works of short fiction, no longer than 5,000 words each, titled. Untitled works will not be accepted.

Foreign Language
Scribendi welcomes foreign language submissions in any of the above literary categories. Works may be written in any language other than English, but must be accompanied by an English translation, with appropriate acknowledgements to the translator, if applicable. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three pieces, each of which must be titled. Untitled works will not be accepted.
Visual Art
Any type of two- or three-dimensional artwork
in any medium (excluding digital art, see Digital Art category). Scribendi limits
submissions in this category to three works, each of which must be
titled. Untitled works will not be accepted. All works must be submitted as digital files in .JPG format. If selected for publication, the Scribendi staff will ask you to send immediately a new digital file of your work saved as a .TIFF or .EPS file in a PC-compatible format with the following settings: DPI should be 300 or more; image size 8" x 10"; color format should be CMYK, not RGB or other color formats. Files sent in RGB mode will result in incorrect color reproduction.
Photography
Black and White, Color, or any combination of
the two. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to
three photographs, titled. Untitled works will not be accepted. All works must be submitted as digital files in .JPG format. If selected for publication, the Scribendi staff will ask you to send immediately a new digital file of your work saved as a .TIFF or .EPS file in a PC-compatible format with the following settings: DPI should be 300 or more; image size 8" x 10"; color format should be CMYK, not RGB or other color formats. Files sent in RGB mode will result in incorrect color reproduction.
Digital Art
Any work of art that is either entirely or primarily
computer-generated. Works that use only minimal use of digital methods
are discouraged. Scribendi limits submissions in this category
to three works. All works must be submitted as digital files in .JPG format. If selected for publication, the Scribendi staff will ask you to send immediately a new digital file of your work saved as a .TIFF or .EPS file in a PC-compatible format with the following settings: DPI should be 300 or more; image size 8" x 10"; color format should be CMYK, not RGB or other color formats. Files sent in RGB mode will result in incorrect color reproduction.
Film
Short film works of any genre or style are considered. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three works.
However, you may submit Film submissions in addition
to regular submissions, as submissions for this category are not added
to your total count of works from Literature and Fine Art categories. All Film submissions must be titled; untitled works will not be accepted. Film submissions must not be longer than 10 minutes and must be submitted as digital video files. All submissions should include a written script or storyboard and a brief (1-2 pages) artist's statement.
Music
Music submissions in any genre or style are considered. Scribendi limits submissions in this category to three works.
However, you may submit Music submissions in addition
to regular submissions, as submissions for this category are not added
to your total count of works from Literature and Fine Art categories. All Music submissions must be titled; untitled works will not be accepted. Recordings of music works must not be longer than 10 minutes and must be submitted as digital audio files.
All submissions should have composed pieces on staff paper (including any lyrics) and a brief artist's (1-2 pages) statement.
