7.01 IONIZING RADIATION PROGRAM
This program is designed to inform, instruct and provide various services and oversight functions in matters of safety for sources of ionizing radiation (e.g., radioactive materials, x-ray tubes). Use of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing radiation in research and teaching is encouraged at the University of New Mexico. The President of the University has delegated to the Radiation Control Committee (RCC) the responsibility for safe use of all ionizing radiation sources at and under the control of the University of New Mexico. Rules and procedures are established to provide as much flexibility and freedom as is consistent with regulations and the safety of University students, employees and the public.
A. SCOPE
This program is applicable to all University students, faculty, staff and other personnel, such as contractors working on University property, who work with, around or frequent areas which contain sources of ionizing radiation (e.g., radioactive materials, x-ray tubes).
