Sam's Comments...on Frames Created 1 May 1997

There appears to be a lot of controversy clouding (Note the background) the use of frames within web pages. While taking a series of classes through UNM Continuing Education Division from Mark Hinton (great instructor) I have found that they definitely do have their use...and abuse. My home page is currently designed to show what I think is an effective use of them. However, when following a link off of my page I discovered a common mistake which probably adds to the frame controversy. It's fine to load my pages into my frames, but one must be careful to not do that when linking to somewhere else. After all, the other page wasn't designed with your frame size in mind. Why screw up someone else's page!! As I just learned...be sure to use _top as the frame reference in the TARGET field.

I've since corrected my pages (I hope), but here's examples of what I mean (BTW, use BACK on your browser to return here):
The wrong way to leave your site (what I had been doing).
The right way to leave your site.

Maybe if we're careful how we present and link our pages, frames will become accepted again.
