COMMUNITY ROLE PLAYING

1.    Participants take on designated roles to portray a specific development issue which is relevant in their lives.

2.    After the drama is played out, the facilitator opens up discussion and elicits views of the causes and solutions to the problem.

3.    The story can be modified several times to illustrate several options for interventions that could address the development challenge that was portrayed. After the development issue has been dramatized in several scenarios, participants can compare and discuss the different results.

4.    When the discussion has ended, the participants should describe how they felt about playing their various roles. Observers should contribute their own impressions of what they saw. (Video or tape recordings, if permitted by the participants, might be useful to jog people's memories at the end of the activity.)
