Welcome to the Department of
Sociology's website. Here you will find information on our people and programs.
Department members are actively engaged in research in sociology and criminology
while maintaining a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education.
- Historically, comparative sociology (often focusing on Latin America) and
criminology have been major strengths of the Department. This is still the
case, but Department interests are also wider ranging: gender, work and
organizations, social movements, race and ethnicity, the Southwest, medical
sociology, and social welfare are areas of great faculty and student interest.
A variety of other areas are represented among our faculty and students as
well.
-
- The Department offers graduate (MA
and PhD) degrees in sociology, undergraduate (BA)
degrees in sociology and criminology, and an undergraduate
minor in social welfare.
