The
Institute for Social Research (ISR) is directly affiliated with the
department, and provides funding and research opportunities for many graduate
students. In addition, students and faculty may choose to be affiliated with
specialized institutes and centers on campus (several of which are directed by
Sociology Department Faculty), such as the nationally recognized
Latin American & Iberian Institute; the
Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse and
Addictions; the Southwest Hispanic Research Institute; and the
Center for Regional Studies.
The UNM libraries have approximately 2 million volumes and over 15,000 serial subscriptions. The University Libraries include Zimmerman Library, the Center for Academic Program Support, the Center for Southwest Research, the Centennial Science and Engineering Library, the Fine Arts Library, the Parish Library of Business, the Law Library, the Health Sciences Library, and the College of Education Library.
The University is a member of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Membership is administered by the Department of Sociology.
Graduate Students benefit from access to a well-equipped departmental computer lab. Various software ranging from several word-processors to several statistical analysis packages are available. Each computer is linked to the campus-wide network and the internet.
An extensive Video Library gives instructors an opportunity to give a multimedia approach that relates to the curriculum of a class.
