The School of Engineering offers strong academic programs, vigorous instruction, active research programs, and a supportive educational environment. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, and solving problems facing society in creative, imaginative ways.

Most School of Engineering classes have less than 20 students. Here's how one student sums it up: "I have been blown away by the care and concern evidenced by the professors at UNM towards their students. My engineering professors at UNM were available to answer my questions, in and outside of office hours, and also through email. They spent as much time as I needed, sometimes over a half an hour on a problem, to help me understand difficult concepts."

SOE students participate in world-class research and internships at the national labs and in the high tech community. They work with small companies, large corporations, Sandia National Laboratory, the Air Force Research Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Idaho National Laboratory.

UNM has been named one of "America's 100 Best College Buys" by the private research firm, Institutional Research & Evaluation, Inc. With tuition rates lower than most flagship universities and numerous scholarship opportunities, UNM is one of the best educational values in the country.
