Work through Chapters 1 - 5 in the Jmp In Manual. Follow the instructions below as they tell you what sections to skip and what to print out for your homework grade.


  1. Print out your own version of Figure 1.15 for either Brand or Speed. Feel free to add a normal curve or anything else you'd like. Can you make it horizontal?

  2. Print out Figure 1.19

  3. Skip the Cowboy Hat section (pg. 15-18). Come back to it if you have time and the inclination.

  4. Print out Figure 2.8. Make the curves as close to normal as you can. Can you put in a normal curve?

  5. What is the weight to height ratio for the 17th student?

  6. Print out Figure 2.20.

  7. Print out Figure 3.10. Is Speedtype significantly different from the others?

  8. Those of you who have not had a statistics class, skip the remainder of the chapter.

  9. Those of you who have not had a statistics class, skip pages 52 and 53. Start again at "The Exclude Command".

  10. Don't use the Journal option on page 55. Its buggy.

  11. Print Figure 4.13. Feel free to make any modifications you desire.

  12. Everyone should skip the "Fit Spline Command" on page 57-59.

  13. When working through chapter 5, focus on the gist of what the author says rather than on the details of the statistics. Even those of you lacking experience with statistics may find the information regarding p values of interest.
