Assignments for Upcoming Week and Spring Break
Theme: Getting in Shape for a Midterm Progress Report
For Friday March 13 Midnight: Absence and Makeup Report
Check out the absence/makeup policy at
http://www.unm.edu/~sromano/english320/320syllabus.htm
Report to your instructor via email on your findings-- susan.romano@gmail.com
--Review your attendance record for the virtual (Friday midnight) class—easily accomplished by checking your comments for each week to date.
--How many times were you absent virtually? Give dates.
--How many times were you absent on a Tuesday? Give dates.
--How many makeups did you perform? Give dates.
--How many minus-10s do you have, if any?
I’ll see if your accounting matches my own. If so, perfect. If not, we’ll figure out who’s not seeing what.
That’s all for Friday.
Assignment for Spring Break
1. Work on your journals, especially planning and research. I’ll collect and grade these documents right after spring break. There’ll be a second grading period at the end of the semester. Use the handout on journal writing to guide your work. http://www.unm.edu/~sromano/english320/researchjournalprotocol.htm
Be sure you’re covering the four categories: reports on research, reading logs, planning and reflection, class notes. This does not mean each category has to have the same amount of text—it is a way to make sure you’re covering the territory. Remember that for better or worse, I am one of the audiences for this journal so I need to be able to make sense of it.
2. Count your posts. By the end of spring break you should have 8 or 9 posts. Some of you already have more—so you can relax. For those of you who are short, spring break is the time to catch up and be ready for the second half of the semester in perfect shape. Quantity does not tell all, of course; but it is one measure. Quality is the other; don’t skimp here.
What’s coming up next:
--Changing your voice—experiments
--New groups—temporarily
--Studying how people read on line
--Creating a broader community
--Technical reports (see below).
