Handout: UNM Account Information
Tips that will save you trouble
Bring disks to class always.
Don't forget to take your disk with you when you leave class!
Always save files to your UNM account AND to your disk.
Always make backup files on your home hard drive.
If you work at home, remember to bring your files on disk or to upload them
to your UNM account from your home computer via FTP.
Procedures
First Step: Create UNM account (if you haven't already)
1. Choose the New Account icon on your desktop, which takes you to a CIRT page
(under "Computing" on the UNM homepage).
2. Choose "Create an Account."
3. Follow the instructions.
4. Using Mirada, test your account by sending email to yourself.
Second Step: Learn to store and retrieve text files from your UNM account
1. Find the UNM Central File icon on your desktop. Log into your account.
2. Create a "Word Documents" Folder. Use the "create new folder"
command.
(Don't mess with those strange files in your account--they're associated with
your mailbox.)
3. Create an MSWord test file.
4. Save the MSW test file in your newly created "Word Documents" File.
