The Student Veterans of UNM in partnership with the Associated Students of UNM – Student Special Events, and numerous student groups are proud to enter their second year of helping fellow Veterans and their families here at UNM.  This year marks the 2nd Annual “Miles of Coins” fundraiser where the goal once again is to reach over a mile of coins to benefit the newly established Student Veterans of UNM Scholarship Fund.

Our “Miles of Coins” drive and fundraiser will culminate on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 where all the coins collected will be lined up in Smith Plaza by Zimmerman Library.  This is a wonderful event and everyone is invited to stop by and help us line up the coins anytime from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

To help, please start setting aside your pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and maybe a few wrinkled bills for this important fundraiser. We will gladly accept all loose change and will have several buckets on hand to collect these coins in addition to “Miles of Coins” coin collection containers around UNM campus and the Albuquerque area.

The UNM community has been extremely generous in the past, donating over $1,400 for the first “Mile of Coins” fundraiser on Veterans Day, 2008.  Funds raised during this year’s event will go toward supporting the scholarship program to help pay for tuition, fees, and supplies for student recipients attending UNM.

Please remember that even the smallest amount makes an incredible difference in the success of this event.  So, please consider setting aside your loose change to help these deserving individuals and by helping either as a donor or volunteer.

IF YOU CANNOT MAKE THE EVENT, BUT STILL WISH TO DONATE, PLEASE CONTACT US BY LEAVING A MESSAGE AT 505-974-1080 OR THROUGH EMAIL AT SVUNM@unm.edu

The Student Veterans of UNM (SVUNM) was founded in May of 2008 by a group of concerned student Veterans with the ideals of advocacy, mentorship, fellowship, and scholarship. Since then, the SVUNM has established itself as the premier student Veterans advocacy group of New Mexico.

"It is the strength of our Veterans, along with our nationwide professional network, that allows us to advocate for the changes that UNM needs to make in order to become the premier 'Veteran Friendly' school in the Southwest."
- Zack Mutchler (President - SVUNM)
