john beerman

Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, 1958
Studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine;
Rhode Island School of Design (B.F.A., 1982)

This lithograph had its beginnings in one of my favorite places for sketching - a state park a few miles north of our home in the Hudson River Valley region os New York State. What I observed that July morning was a bank of trees in their peak summer abundance, with deep shadowy blues and muted grey greens in a luminous silhouette against a brightening yellow sky. When asked to come to Tamarind I picked this sketch because I felt it would translate best into a lithograph. I strive to record and preserve a particular moment in time - a cloud formation, a summer sunset, a winter's field - a moment when I feel especially connected to the natural world.
