Lives and works in New York City
Studied at Virginia Commonwealth University (B.F.A., 1978)
Artist's statement:
Much of my work focuses on light and shadow and how natural forms reveal
themselves to my eyes. I think a similar process occurs when art reveals itself
to its viewer and I feel I've been successful when my art mimics nature's revelations-the
subtle plays between form, light, and shadow. Sometimes my approach is to reduce
the features of a particular landscape to its bare essentials, and then to multiply
those essentials. In doing so, I sometimes render a new point of view or even
an entirely different landscape. These prints I made at Tamarind were my first
lithographs-a challenging medium. In them I've depicted two variations of a
single strand of trees and given each a different mood. One has a wintry, cool,
and blue feel; and the other, a warm, tropical atmosphere. I like the fact that
the same trees exist in two totally different atmospheres and may, possibly,
elicit radically different emotional responses.
