Born on the Flathead Reservation, Montana, 1940
Lives in Corrales, New Mexico
Studied at Framingham State College, Massachusetts (B.A., Art Education, 1976) and the University of New Mexico (M.A.,Art, 1980)

Smith calls herself a cultural art worker.  Elaborating on her Native American worldview, Smith's work addresses today's tribal politics, human rights, and environmental issues with a keen sense of humor.

She describes her latest prints at Tamarind as follows:

Eye Candy:  The natural world dazzles me and becomes my “Eye Candy”.

The American Landscape:  The American Landscape is undergoing constant change by political and corporate economic agendas impacting the natural world and creating an assemblage of a nuclear admixture. Some scientists believe that eventually humans will self-immolate, thus leaving the planet to the surviving insects, like perhaps the cockroaches.

Jaune Quick-to-See Smith's monoprints honor the rituals of her native Flathead community. The Ceremony Series was inspired by the artist's own participation last summer in an Okant (Sundance) with her Flathead and Blackfeet relatives at Badger Creek, Montana.

Smith was the 1997 recipient of the Women's Caucus for Art Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts. Her one-person show, Subversion/Affirmation: Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, A Survey, which originated at the Jersey City Museum in New Jersey, will end its national tour in February 1998 at the Art Museum of Missoula, Montana. She shows regularly at the LewAllen Gallery in Santa Fe and at Steinbaum Krauss in New York. The Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of American Art, and The Museum of Mankind, Vienna, Austria, are a few of the major collections which include Smith's work.
