Elise McHugh is managing editor and in-house poetry editor for the University of New Mexico Press. Her experience in publishing includes eight years as editorial assistant at West End, a small nonprofit press in Albuquerque, as well as literary and scholarly journals. Elise earned her Master's in English with an emphasis in creative writing (poetry) from the University of New Mexico. Elise taught poetry workshops while at UNM. Born and raised in New Mexico, Elise shares UNM Press's dedication to publishing and promoting works that explore the West and its borders. As an acquiring editor of a trade genre, she is interested in publishing and promoting poetry that explores both the realities of living and working in the West and on the border and the West and border as metaphors.
