The Testing Center has a COMPASS computer based math placement exam available for students who have never taken an ACT exam or students who want to challenge their ACT math score. There is a $3.00 fee for taking each COMPASS test and results with placement recommendations are printed immediately after completion of the test. Additionally, students may take a reading placement and/or a writing placement exam to "place out" of Introductory Studies Reading 100 or English 100. These tests are for placement only, not for course credits. Contact the Testing Center at 277-5346 for additional information. The University of New Mexico strives to enable students to succeed. A major hindrance to college success is proper class placement. Mathematics is an area where correct placement is essential. In addition to the COMPASS, the Math Department developed a Self-Assessment Test to enable you to get a better idea of which math class is appropriate for your skill level.
