Introduction to Discussion/Study Questions

The purpose of the discussion/study questions is to give you an idea of some of the things I think are important in this class. If you look at the question and have no idea how to answer it, you would be wise to spend some time reviewing your notes, reviewing the reading, talking to your classmates, asking questions in class, or coming to talk to me during office hours.

If you look at the question and can picture yourself writing a thoughtful and thorough response, it might be useful to actually do so. Writing often stimulates the parts of our brain that process the material we learn. Writing or talking about the questions is apt to deepen your understanding of them. Sometimes they will have a right or wrong answer. Other times, the correct response will depend on your interpretation of the material.

Some students find it helpful to study in groups. These and other questions you come up with could serve as useful discussion topics.

It should be noted that there is lots of material I think is important that I have not included in the study questions. Think of these as examples, not an all inclusive list.
