Introduction

This lesson will cover all of the basic concepts needed for section 1.3 of your text.  This section deals with understanding and manipulating fractions.  This is a supplement to what we did in class.

Task

When you finish with this lesson and/or the textbook, you should be able to:

  1. Describe what a fraction is and define its parts.
  2. Create equivalent fractions with different denominators (e.g., reduce).
  3. Add and subtract fractions, including mixed numbers and those without common denominators.
  4. Multiply fractions.
  5. Divide fractions.
  6. Solve word problems involving fractions.
