The caked mud at the bottom of the vessel is there to help convince you that this ewer was found in a tomb. Whoever put the mud there used a brush or coarse cloth, leaving tell-tale marks. To see two more examples of white-glazed pottery of dubious ancestry, please click on the thumbnails below.
