Camels were an important pack animal in the dry parts of the Chinese empire,
and were used on the Silk Road that brought Chinese goods to the West in
the centuries before the rise of global maritime trade. Camels also seem to
have been an object of fascination to the ancient Chinese, as they are to us
today. The image below shows a slightly different view of the same figurine.
