Measuring 48 centimeters (19 inches) tall and 21 centerimeters (8 1/4 inches) in diameter, the jar shown above fuses a classical Chinese form with a modern taste for abstraction and simplicity. The yellow interior makes for a very understated contrast with the pale green exterior. It's difficult to miss the detailed exterior decoration that would have graced the jar in earlier times.

The next photo shows a variation on the theme. This jar is much smaller (15 centimeters or 6 inches tall, 7 centimeters or 2 3/4 inches in diameter) but the color scheme is bolder. The owner has found a wood stand for this jar, following the Chinese practice in which wood stands indicate porcelains that are especially valued.
