A model of a granary

A model of a granary
2012.91.32, model of a granary; Han Dynasty (206 B.C.–A.D. 220)
Eason Eige Collection; photos by B. Bernard.

Another example of The tomb offerings known as mingqi, this granary stands 11 1/2 inches (29 cm) tall. An actual granary was filled from the top, and grain flowed through the hole at the bottom to a waiting basket or bowl. When we think of China we think of rice but in ancient China, "grain" often meant millet.
