2012.91.36, covered food dish on pedestal; 1700–206 B.C.
Eason Eige Collection; photo by B. Bernard
Made in the Bronze age or perhaps as late as the Qin dynasty, this food dish features a pedestal with a flaring base and a cover. If inverted, the cover has a ring foot and can double as a second dish. The Chinese name for this general vessel form is Dou.
The next photo shows the dish and
cover separately. By itself, the dish is 6 1/2 inches (16 cm) tall; with the
lid it is 8 inches (20 cm) tall. The dish measures 5 1/2 inches (14 cm)
in diameter.
