The Neolithic period two-handled cup shown above is from the Machang phase of the Majiayao culture and was made in the upper Yellow River drainage. It is 4 1/2 inches (11 cm) tall and 5 inches (13 cm) in diameter. The rim is pierced with pairs of small holes, perhaps as a decorative touch. To see the design on the handles, click here.

The similar cups, shown below, are also from the Machang phase.
