The Transfer Team works with faculty and staff to have your transfer coursework evaluated for UNM equivalency.

1. How are my courses going to transfer to UNM?

Transfer Articulation Guides for 2-year New Mexico institutions are available online at: http://www.unm.edu/preview/tr_how.htm.

All other schools must submit an unofficial transcript to the Transfer Team either by email to transadv@unm.edu, or by fax to (505) 277-6686. If unofficial transcripts are faxed, be sure to put it to the attention of The Transfer Program. Transcripts should include the course number (i.e. Math 121), course title (i.e. College Algebra), credit hours earned, school name and state. Make sure to include your contact information (email or phone number) so we may contact you with results.


2. How long will it take to get my transfer courses evaluated?

Generally it takes 3-4 weeks for results to come back from the departments. Results vary, so please plan ahead and speak to a Transfer Advisor as soon as possible.


3. How do I get admitted to UNM?

Fill out a paper or online application, pay the $20 application fee, and have your official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office.

The application fee can be paid online, in person, mailed to the above address, or paid over the phone at (505) 277-4748.


4. How do I check my admissions status?

If you filled out an online application, you can check your status by logging into your application online. If you filled out a paper application, you can call (505) 277-2447 to check your status.


5. How do I transfer my Financial Aid?

If you've filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov be sure to add UNM as a school you want your information sent to.

Contact Financial Aid at (505) 277-2041, or go to their website at: http://www.unm.edu/~finaid/ for more specific information.


6. How do I transfer my NM Lottery Scholarship?

Fill out out the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship Transfer From found at the following link: http://www.unm.edu/~schol/trans/lottotrans.html.

Contact the Scholarships Office at (505) 277-6090, or go to their website at: http://www.unm.edu/~schol/ for more specific information.


7. Do I have to attend an orientation?

As of Fall 2008, all incoming transfer students must attend an orientation session. Please go to the LOBOrientation webpage for contact information and dates: http://www.unm.edu/~nso/.


8. Can I attend both Central NM Community College and UNM?

Yes. You will need to fill out a consortium agreement if you are receiving financial aid. You can find this form at: http://www.unm.edu/~finaid/forms/0708/forms0708.html.

If you've applied to UNM and do not enroll in classes, you will need to fill out a Semester Change form and pay $15 to have your application moved to a different semester. Your application stays active for 4 consecutive semesters (this includes the Summer session).


9. Where do I go for advisement?

Initially you will meet with a Transfer Advisor before, or once you've been admitted to the university. We will go over what transfers to UNM and give you general advisement about admission requirements for you college and how your transfer courses fit into your degree plan.

You will then meet with a pre-major advisor, an advisor in your college, or an advisor for your major/minor about specific requirements for admission into the college, or about major/minor requirements.
