About UFDP

The Corps of Engineers Arid Regions Flood Reduction and Channel Restoration Demonstration Program & the Southwest Urban Flood reduction and channel restoration Demonstration (UFDP) Programs are collaborative efforts between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the University of New Mexico (UNM), and the Desert Research Institute (DRI). The program was initiated in 2003 with the Corps and DRI. UNM has participated since 2006. The goal of the program is to develop and demonstrate innovative technologies for urban flood damage reduction and stream restoration in arid and semi-arid watersheds. All of UNM’s projects are for the Rio Grande basin.
