Program Description

The associate of arts in education (AAE) - secondary education option, is designed to meet New Mexico state teacher licensure requirements for the first two years of study for prospective 9 – 12 teachers.

Career and Educational Advancement Opportunities

General education and core requirements will articulate with all New Mexico colleges of education. All courses offered are accepted by the UNM College of Education and apply toward a bachelor of arts or science in education with teacher licensure for elementary or secondary school teaching. Students may also apply this degree to qualify under the No Child Left Behind Act to work as educational assistants in the public schools. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all pre-admission course work.

Total credit hours required: 64 (60 hours of general education courses and 4 hours of program-specific courses).
