Program Description

The aim of the associate of applied acience in general studies (AASGS) degree is to provide a variety of experiences that broadens academic understanding, increases knowledge of the relationships across the disciplines and helps develop an increased awareness of others and of the environment

 

Career and Educational Advancement Opportunities

A student who is awarded this degree is prepared to enter jobs that require one or two years of college but do not require a declared major field of study. In addition, group requirements, other than technical courses, may transfer to academic programs in four-year universities.

Program Requirements

Total credit hours required: 61 (31 hours of general education courses and 30 hours of elective courses). Please refer to the University of New Mexico Core Curriculum on pages 72-73 for a list of allowed courses for Physical & Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Social & Behavioral Sciences , Humanities, and Fine Arts. For the 30 credit hours of electives, at least 15 must be academic (i.e., no “T” or developmental studies courses); the remaining credits may be selected from any technical field (i.e., “T” courses but not developmental studies courses).
