Who in your life has most influenced your love of books and your right to read

Answers

I've removed specific individual's names to protect their privacy.

  • No one really. I was a loner child, teased and picked on growing up so I retreated to books. Can't remember when I fell in love with reading but I remember all the traveling I got to do and the adventures I participated in. For me, it was a way to run away, see the world through other peoples' eyes. I still read 1-2 books a month. I firmly believe that reading helped me to be great at writing.
  • My mom
  • My mother reading to me and having me read to my sister. My teacher Mrs. Sommerville putting me in advanced reading program, and assorted librarians that never told me I couldn't check out that book because it was from the adult section.
  • My parents subscribe to "weekly reader book club" and I got new books every month.
  • My mom
  • My mother! I grew up on a ranch and she bought me books to read when I was very young. She encouraged me to belong to a reading group at the little library in town.
  • My mother
  • My mother, brother and now husband and daughter.
  • My mother. When we moved her to a nursing home, she was most worried that we take care of her books with a lifetime of notes inside their covers and in the margins.
  • My aunt
  • My second grade teacher
  • My Mom
  • My mom
  • My parents
  • My elementary school teachers who took us to the school library every week had the greatest impact in my love of reading. Access led to love.
