Two Types of Article Indexes

2. Subject Indexes

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject index. Subject indexes specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. Examples of subject indexes and the kinds of articles they identify are:

ERIC
 Indexes articles in education. Available off campus.
PubMed
 Indexes articles in medicine. Available off campus.
PsychArticles
 Indexes articles in psychology. Includes full text and is available off campus.
