The Intake Assessment

Once you have completed the Intro to the GED workshop, you will be scheduled for assessments in reading and math. These assessments, which are called CASAS assessments, test your current abilities in the skills necessary to complete the GED exam.

Please don't get freaked out about the fact that we hit you with a couple of tests right off the bat. There is no time limit on the assessments, and it is impossible to flunk these tests! The assessments just give us some information about your current level of understanding and they help us place you correctly in the program.

Note: If you've started your GED training at another school or in another part of the state, and you're transferring to UNM-VC, you still have to take these assessments. Official GED scores will transfer between programs but assessment scores do not.

Accommodations are available for those who require assistance with communication or with taking written tests. Please contact the Adult Education Center via phone (505-925-8900) or email to make arrangements for necessary accommodations before you come in for your Intake Interview.
