UNM-VC Adult Education Center offers dozens of intensive, instructor led classes. These classes focus on giving you the skills you need to pass your GED. Throughout the program, however, we also enhance our classes with information to promote life-long learning, and to help you transition successfully to the workforce and/or to higher education.
All new students start out in a Computer Based Instruction class, and at least three Power Up workshops. Students must complete all three of these workshops and also attend their Computer Based Instruction class on a regular basis in order to be placed in Intensive Classes.
In math, we offer classes ranging from Number Sense, which reviews basic arithmetic operations, to Fractions, Decimals, and Percents, which introduces some of the more difficult mathematical topics required to pass the GED.
Our Language Arts classes start at literacy level training and progress up to a Transitions Reading and Writing class that helps prepare students for the transition to college.
We also offer a Fast-Track GED course for students who score extremely well on their assessments, but aren't quite GED-Ready. This course reviews all subjects covered in the GED exam, including Science and Social Studies.
Please note that students may NOT simply sign up for Intensive Classes. Students must first successfully complete a Computer Based Instruction class (as well as a series of workshops). The tutor leading the Computer Based Instruction class will place the student in the appropriate Instensive class at the end of the student's initial session.
