Before you take your Official GED Exams, you need to take a series of practice GED Exams. These exams are prepared by the same group that writes the Official GED Exams, so the format is identical, and the questions are similar. In fact, the only difference between the practice exams and the real exams is the timing: the multiple choice practice exams have fewer questions than the real exams, and the time allotment is about half of what you'll be allowed for the Official GED exam.
The practice exams require a time committment of about four hours, but you may spread the exams out over several days. The longest exam is the Language Arts - Writing exam, which takes about an hour and a half. Most of the other exams can be completed in 45 minutes or less.
Once you've completed the entire series of exams, your instructor or tutor will grade the entire set and discuss the results with you.
