In 1994 moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico with girlfriend to attend graduate school at the University of New Mexico. During this period an intense focus on variations of eastern and western aesthetics became a conscious attempt to combine travels with artwork. The ceramic ware became a hybrid of traditional Mashiko yaki with contemporary influences from Onuki’s style and an organic Pop overtone. |

Sculptures began to resonate the gardens and shines of Japan with a funky
bizarre twist. Large scale installations of abstract ceramic
flowers, rockets and bullet forms communicated a humorous approach to
the daily perceptions of living in the campus area of Albuquerque. Received MFA in ceramics and sculpture and was hired in 1996 to teach
ceramics at the Valencia extension campus of UNM. |

Purchased an old adobe home in the rural town of Jarales. The recent move has brought back many memories of Japan, both towns being farm based communities. Being back in a rural environment has brought a new focus and deeper attention to subtitles and the happy accidents that take place in the ceramic medium, blending the aesthetics of the East with the beauty of daily life in rural New Mexico. |
